Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations regarding the rental. In cases of discrepancy between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement prevails.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle in Dunfermline requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Dunfermline, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may vary based on the vehicle type, and additional fees might apply for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category, is required, along with valid identification and proof of your current address. You will also need to provide valid payment information and a security deposit, as well as meet any additional requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or at our Dunfermline office. A deposit might be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
4. Car Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in Dunfermline, a thorough inspection is required to identify any pre-existing damage. It is essential to report any findings immediately. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as received; refueling fees will apply if not. Late returns may attract extra charges, so please inform us promptly if a delay is anticipated. You are liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during the rental period, along with an applicable administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance, with comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional coverage applies. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, irrespective of existing insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Uses
Prohibited Uses of Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, or off-road driving is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not permitted. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is against policy. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Ensure the vehicle is used only for its intended purpose and within set passenger and weight limits. Driving outside designated geographical boundaries without prior consent is not allowed.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
